Scam Email: Cynthia Brent

I will never understand the mentality of scammers. The below email was just forwarded to me. They placed a fake order and sent 3 different credit cards numbers to use. Did they not think that was going to raise some warning flags??? Also, how lame to not even spell your own faked name correctly below. Again, just another thing to make someone stop in their tracks and say, "whaaa?". "Bellow is my shipping" also doesn't help their case. I guess it is to our great fortune that these guys have so few brain cells.

    I just got a similar email - but thought it was strange that her email misspelled 'cinthia'. . .so I just did a search for that name. thanks for posting this, glad I didn't pursue their inquiry.

    I actually got the same e-mail. but i also got 4 calls from them by an operator that translates and she indicated to me right away that this was a scam!!!!

    Yeah, I've seen this before. You see, it doesn't cost them anything to play dumb and try one more time to hook their victim into the scam. Remember, it doesn't take very many successful victims to make this scam totally worth their effort.

    It's not really about nerve - these guys have no moral compass - they are just working the steps of their scam.

    But good for you in NOT becoming one of their success cases.

    I just received the exact same email, word for word, this scammer is not even creative enough to come up with something new. The first thing I did is to trace their IP address (41.207.20.108) which actually is a house in South Africa, but then luckily I stumbled upon this site with google search under "Mrs Caroline Sexy Boutique", so thank you for this useful blog.

    Oh My Gosh. I have been emailing with this lady this whole week. I gave her an estimate I worked with her and she provided me with exact same address. And I told her that the only method of payment we do is pay pal and direct bank deposit and she refused. And start telling me crap like the bank charges to much for pay pal and so on. You're kidding right? And she asked to add 100 more children sets, so she can pay with out delay.
    What a scam????
    I told her we will not cooperate with her because she appeared under scam! I am so upset, but than happy that I pulled her address up on Google. And start reading about the same address. And she is Janet Boutique not Cindy lol

    The basics of the scam are (they reveal all the parts of the scam in stages):

    1. They pretend to want to place a large order.
    2. They used to offer to pay by overnight check (which was always a fraudulent check) but then began to experience money loss because enough people would figure it out *after* they spent money on the overnight delivery. Now they offer to pay via credit card, which is always a stolen number. They try to use stolen numbers not yet reported so it clears on your end, but will eventually result in a chargeback - but by that time they have already executed their scam and are long gone.

    3. They come up with some elaborate story (all made up) about why they need to use their own shipping company.

    4. They come up with some elaborate story as to why they will be paying more than what is owed and you are to send the "difference" to their shipper to cover the shipping fee they charge. Always via Western Union. This is a big tipoff. There is no shipping company - it is just them at the other end of Western Union and once they have picked up your good money, they are completely untraceable. So the goal is to get your money before you, the bank, the credit card company all figure out that none of it is real... except your money that you forwarded as cash via Western Union to the scammers and then its too late.

    That's why I started the blog. It's hard to stop these vermin, but if people know enough to google them first when something doesn't feel right, and I keep posting all the scam emails I get and that people forward to me (or post themselves in the comments), then it will show up in google results and I can at least reduce their success rate.

    Glad to see you didn't fall victim to it.

    Just received the same Email today 9/28/11 . Why hasn't the authorities put an end to the scammers . after reading all the posts , it is quite obvious that people have been getting emails like this for over a year !! I will send dog shit in a bag to he West Africa Address they give !!!

    I get how you are feeling but really - they have made everything up. Their name is fake, the email address temporary and disposable, the West African address fake, their "story" - fake. It's all made up to trick people into giving their good money to a fake shipping company via Western Union... which is just them at the other end and once they pick up the money, it's untraceable and so are they.

    Really it's been going on for many many years. The authorities are not motivated to do anything because their feeling is a crime has not actually been committed until there is financial loss. And even then, these guys are notoriously hard to track down. Each case is too small pions for the government and that's exactly what the scammers are counting on. Each scam too small to attract the authorities but cumulatively they make money.

    It's frustrating but that is exactly why I started the blog - its one small way we can strike back. Posting these publicly (and educating artists to google search deals that don't seem quite right) is one way we can hit the scammers where it counts - make it hard for them to succeed at bilking people of their money.

    They say it doesn't cost the scammers anything to send out millions of emails, and this is true. Well, it doesn't cost me anything to post their crap on a blog and expose them to warn off other artists from becoming a victim.

I got suspicious and never sent anything and thank God I did not because I checked on line with STOP ART SCAMS and It got confirmed that this was a scam.     It's a slight twist but not much of one. Wire transfer IS as good as cash so scammers don't typically offer this as an option. They want you to wire money to them. But they begin with this and may try to switch to another payment method. Keep a close eye on this.
