Scam Email: Tony Grider

The use of English language looked suspicious to me, as well as the 'cashiers check', so I found your site -- very informative and helpful.  I'll just ignore any future emails from "Tony Grider".  Thanks.

Here's the emails.

  1. My scammer used the name Maribel Ascencio. Her Email was almost exactly the same as “Tony Grider’s”. I was almost hooked, but felt very uneasy about the poor grammar and sketchy information. I went as far as providing my address and phone number before finding this blog. I am a senior citizen and am considering taking copies of my correspondence with “Maribel” to my local Crimes Against Seniors Office.

  2. Wow I just got an offer to buy 2 of my pieces from Maribel Ascencio. She said essentially the same as above. I just thought English is not her first language. But if the check is good and clears the bank isn't that OK?

  3. The check won't be ok. Even if, sometimes, the bank accepts the check, doesn't mean it's cleared. But many banks recognize a counterfeit check. If the used the story above, the check will NOT clear.

Rip it up and do not reply to the scammer any further.

  4. Thanks KatieMoe, I'm sure you are correct. In her last email she said "... the payment you will be receiving comprises some extra funds, means it would cover the cost and shipping. also have some collections to be picked up from a province close to you, that is not a problem at all after the check as cleared your bank and funds have been made available to you, i would need you to deduct your own funds and then have the remainder of the funds sent to the shipment broker that will come over to your location to pick up from you..." so this is clearly a scan and I responded to cease and desist. If she sends the check I will rip it up. So creepy.

  5. Just want to add I received the same series of emails from Maribel Ascencio with the email of ascenciomaribel188@gmail.com. Exact same last message as Anonymous posted above. I was searching her name one more time when I found this string. After the last message about deducting funds for the shipper and seeing this information I asked her for the shipper's information so my niece, who works in the shipping industry, could verify their shipping costs. That put an end to the communications.

  6. Good one. Scammers know they have to move on to their next potential victim when someone wants to verify their fake story.

    to me

    Good Morning,

How are you doing today? I am Michael Velez from Houston TX. I've been on the lookout for some artworks lately in regards to I and my wife's anniversary which is just around the corner. I stormed on some of your works which i found quite impressive and intriguing. I must admit your doing quite an impressive job. You are undoubtedly good at what you do.

With that being said, I would like to purchase some of your works as a surprise gift to my wife in honor of our upcoming wedding anniversary. It would be of help if you could send some pictures of your piece of works, with their respective prices and sizes, which are ready for immediate (or close to immediate) sales. My budget for this is within the price range of $500 to $5000.

I look forward to reading from you in a view to knowing more about your pieces of inventory.

    Best regards,
    Mr. Velez

  8. "Mike", quit picking on artists. We are already struggling and maybe 0.5% of us are actually wealthy enough to be worth scamming!
