Scam Email: Pete Anderson

Here is an interesting exchange an artist forwarded to me.

Kathleen,

Thanks for your efforts.  This is the original e-mail used to contact me.  It's rather humerous. There is no listing for his company name, the address belongs to a bed and breakfast and the phone number belongs to a radio station.

I will also send the e-mail with the fake shipping company information.

I am going to go along with it and report the credit card numbers I am given as stolen.

Best regards,

Steve

First Email (the scammer didn't even personize the TO field):
From: Pete Anderson
To: panderson223@yahoo.com
Subject: Order Request

Dear Sir,
With much regards to your company, I will like to buy some sculptures from your shop and am interested in some wildlife sculptures so kindly get back to me here with the price list of the wildlife sculptures you currently have in stock. Hope to read from you soon with your response.

Kind Regards

Then the artist wrote a shipping quote to the shipping company, but of course that just goes to the scammer and the scammer had a whole silly official-looking email prepared for that. Notice how the total amount adds up to a high enough amount to make their scam really worth it if the victim decides to "forward" that amount from their good money thinking the buyer had paid it but it will be a stolen credit card number. Also notice the mistakes in filling out their fake email and the signature of Mark Morgan is actually another common name scammers use and pretending to be a buyer. Finally, notice in the shipping how the destination client is now listed as Ken Moore (another common scammer fake name, they must just pull these from a database) instead of actual fake buyer Pete Anderson. Guess the scammer forgot to change this part...

  1. I received an email from this same email address wanting something I had on craigslist to be sent to Nigeria for his "grandson" as a gift. I received a phony paypal confirmation email telling me the funds would be released when I provided a tracking no. I logged into paypal and there was no activity. Definitely a scam. Always look into strange activity.

  8. also with me Mr. Anderson tried to scam. the times are gone, but the procedure is always the same: Mr. Pete Anderson, born on February 6th 1980, Swedish nationality, but lives in Geneve in Switzerland, separated with a 6 year old son. known on a social network, he claims to be captain of a cargo ship, and is currently in the Gulf of Aden. after a few days of flattery, he tells me that he was forced to stop the ship due to a technical failure and asks me to send an e-mail to the supply company on his behalf to order the piece to be replaced; he only has whatsapp and the network is not enough to send the email. at this point I realized that something was not going right, but curious to see how far Mr. Anderson wanted to scam me. so I decided to send the email with this message:
    My friend Pete Anderson
    Drillcargo needs help!
He is in Arabian sea 6.535888,
    67.557078
    Exact coordinates
His engine failed and he needs
    Marine gas turbine registered with
    PeteAnderson
    Drillcargo & Co
    Company.
    to this e-mail address
the company replies, saying it has the spare part available, but to ship it, they want to be paid € 2,237.00.
at this point Mr. Anderson tells me that he wants to give me his accesses (user and password) of the current account of his company and that I should have made the transfer on his behalf. at this point I refused. a little altered by my answer, we are still in touch; tells me that he had to ask his ex-wife for help. after a few days he tells me that his ex-wife immediately wants to have the money she lent to him and then asks me again to go into his current account and make the transfer to his ex-wife. I am in possession of all the screen shots of the emails, his online photo on the social networks, the telephone number which obviously is blocked for incoming calls, the IBAN code on which I should have credited. I made checks on the current account, currently active, but the person to whom the account is registered does not exist.
I'm publishing this story on many online sites for fake and scan, to prevent someone from being scammed or robbed from their account. Thanks and regards
