It's when scammers make lame mistakes that most people get suspicious that the purchase is not actually for real. This scammer using this fake name made several mistakes, but the obvious one that tipped the scales for the artist was saying they do not use PayPal. Then the artist got suspicious. But some scammer say they use PayPal and then send a faked payment confirmation email hoping the artist will not manually check their account before wiring money to a non-existent shipper. So be careful. And google things that don't make sense.

Good Day,
I am Cindy Dickson from Norway, I want to informed you that your items are most creative & desirable, so much talent! I am interested in purchasing some of your unique items to my shop in Norway, but before i do i want to inform if i can make the payment with my credit card because presently my best form of payment is via credit card, that is where i put all my money for any international transaction. So kindly reconfirm your website/contact details and get back to me with it so as to know if I'm right with the site.
Concerning the shipment,my shipping company will be coming to pickup the items because i already have some merchandise with them in which they will be shipping together to me here in Norway. So you don't need to be worried about the shipment nor handling fee.

Thank you for your blog posting with the information about "Cindy Dickson."
ReplyDeleteI recently exchanged several emails with "Cindy" but was wary from the start
I looked up the shops supposed address (Niels Juels gate 43, 0257, Oslo, Norway) on Google Maps and got an urban image that did not look like a retail location ... no signage at all. I sent that image and asked if it was the shop. I also asked what artists and what type of merchandise the shop carried.
What I got back was a jpg image showing someone in an art shop interior and no other information ... except the material you have published on your blog.
Keep up the good work and, again, Thank You!
Best Regards,
John
I'm sure they just grabbed some jpg image online from somewhere, and knew to make it the interior, hoping you'd think OK!
ReplyDeleteIt's would be funny how dumb scammers can be, except how utterly sad it is how many victims they continue to get and how much money is lost to them.
So we all continue to post these online and try to warn others so they do not become victims.
I'm glad you did not become a victim today. Congratulations!
I am also in contact with someone, who uses exactly the same words in his emails. I was very suspicious, mistrustful, from the very first beginning. Because he asked for very simple works, how could easily get somewhere in Australia (were "he lives"). Don't get me wrong, I am believing in my art - :-) - seriously. But that was decorative art.
ReplyDeleteWhen I let him know, that all the paintings are sold, and he should have a look at my website, he decided to buy very different works. I answered very friendly, thinking, I never hear from him again.
I checked his name in internet and found your blog - so I was informed.
But then.....I got cheques in an envelope. It starts being frightening. My bank would change the cheques if I want....! Conditional. That means, in the end I am the only one who will be able to held responsible. My financial loss would be somewhere around 7000 Euro. Disgusting.
Thanks for your blog. It helped my gut feeling.
I've just sent Kecia (read Cindy) a lovely email saying she should check out this web page. She won't be making any money out of me!!
