Scam Email: Andrew Roundy

Here is a scam email I received this morning. Looks like the scam was sent from a hijacked server. Notice how all the emails are either made up or belong to someone else - except for the Reply-To address, which is where your reply goes when you write back. That is the throw-away gmail account the scammer is using to communicate with their victims. The rest of this email is pretty standard stuff - they withhold most of the scam until a person replies to them. But the formatting is off, as usual.

  2. Hi I have just received the exact same email as above from Andrew Roundy. I did reply to him thinking he was legit and he then wanted to place a large order through my web store. When I told him I could not supply his order, he then insisted this was OK, that he wanted to spend $1200 in my online store on any products similar to his order. I thought this very strange and goggled his name, hence I came across your site..Thank you so much....

  3. I just received one too from Mr. Roundy. Is there anything that can be done to find these people and penalize them somehow? Thank you!

  4. Just got an order from the same guy, $1100 worth of product with instructions to use their shipper, Seahog Logistics. He even gave me a customer number...Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm pretty sure the customer number is fake... and if it isn't (which would surprise me), I'm sure they still pay their stuff with cash and use a PO box so they can't be traced.

I wish more could be done to find and penalize these cockroaches but they are very well practiced on how to do this so they can't be traced. And really, nothing illegal has been done until they actually send a fraudulent check (and most send it via FedEx because FedEx doesn't really do anything about it - UPS and obviously the postal service do investigate these once a fraudulent check is sent). But when they pay for postage with cash, there really isn't much of a record anyway. At best, they would know the FedEx, UPS, or postal office of origin.

But some feel its worth reporting anyway, so authorities get a sense for the scope of the problem.

  7. I hope you are not feeling like a fool... you didn't lose ANY money or product! You didn't even get to the part of the scam where he gives you a stolen credit card number (typically one that has not yet been reported but will result in a chargeback once the owner realizes the charges) or offers to send you a fake check.

You did fine. You did finally trust your gut that something wasn't right and you googled it. And now you won't lose anything.

    Be proud of yourself!

  11. I just received the same email from someone who called himself Jordan Benson. Something told me that this was a fishy deal I just wrote to him and asked him how he found my email address, and what he was going to do with these things that we wanted to buy. I was suspicious because I sell mostly to Waldorf Schools around the world.

  12. The same thing happend to me on the 25 of April a person by the name of Jordan Benson contacted me via email. I was getting ready to ship the order and my girlfriend googled this name which led me to this site. I feel like an idiot but at least I'm not out any money.

Here is a note to Jordan Benson.

  16. These e-mails are going out under a dozen or more names. The name is usually a man's first name combined with an Anglo-Irish surname like Jordan, Roundy, or Watson. The apparent e-mail address is always firstname@firstname.com (e.g. jordan@jordan.com, andrew@andrew.com, michael@michael.com). The address is always in the Philippines; 16 Ayala Avenue is an internet cafe.

Some internet providers are filtering these messages, but some are getting through.

  25. I am the idiot who fell for the scam! :( I haven't given the man any merchandise though.. but I did place an order, in which I will promptly return. Email was exactly... word for word.. as the stated emails above. The strange part came when after I agreed to help him out.. he asked for a "favour". I need you to wire $3200 to a merchant in China via Western Union, and then you can give yourself $200 for your trouble. I did not do this.. because it sounded so fishy.. but I am angry at myself for falling into the trap.. grrrr.

  28. Same letter here for us, wanted to order one of our spinning wheels and have it sent by Chinese shipper Seahog Logistics to his address in Legaspi Village, Makati City in the Philippines.

ARGH! Fortunately I knew this was a front.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to stop these, and that is why I started the blog. I wanted some way to fight back. It really isn't even a crime yet until someone loses actual money or property (or the scammer sends their fake check via usps and then it's mail fraud but they are careful not to do that). They could be tracked down for spamming (as they often send out hundreds of thousands of emails at a time) but they'll hijaak someone's server to do that and the loss needs to be significant enough for the authorities to pursue it and as it is individuals, it has really been pursued.

So I fight back by posting every lame scam email that gets forwarded to me (or that I receive directly myself) and everyone's comments and hope to reduce the effectiveness of their activity.

  38. David Parker is also trying to purchase Christian reading material and sermons $1000.00 worth to be exact. I noticed something fishy when the emails were different and googled Seahog Logisitics. This seems to be a legitimate business but David Parkers "Seahog logistics email" is @yahoo.com. As soon as his credit card was declined it was obvious it was a phony!!!This made me google this lame dude! Stealing from people and religious Organizations is so sad! And it made me very mad. His email addresses need to be reported.

  39. I received the same letter from David Parker about buying art but required going through a specific shipper. I was suspicious from the beginning but went along to see what the probable scam entailed. When I heard back from the "shipper" and the writing and syntax were exactly the same, red flags went up. Of course, the shipper requiring me to send them money by Western Union in advance was the giveaway. That's when I looked them up on the internet and found this site.

Thank God for this resource regarding this.

  40. Good for you for being vigilant and not allowing yourself to fall for the scam.

Yes, the Western Union part of the scam is always a dead giveaway. I can't believe after all these years, that Western Union hasn't put something in place so customers are traceable and they are not the haven of scammers and crooks. I personally would never use their service because of this.

Glad this blog was of help, though.

It is not too effective to block the email addresses of scammers. they basically create disposable accounts and every time they send out a massive mailing, they slightly change the disposable account. they do this specifically to avoid being blocked.

But again, great you will not be one of their victims today. Score another one for our team!

Unfortunately, i proceeded to taking credit card details and receiving payment...I did not realise this was a scam until Western Union cautioned me not to make a payment to someone i did not know.

SEAHOG Logistics was also used as the supposed method of goods transfer.

How emabarassing to fall for such a scam!!!!

  49. I wouldn't let embarrassment hang on too long - it was really nice of Western Union to warn you and save you from financial loss.

So good. They *almost* got you but in the end did not. Good for you.

  53. John Benson strikes again with his buddy from Lech Tech, using a gmail account. He kept emailing me day after day about did I pay the money to lech tech and Lech tech tried to reassure me that He has worked with John Benson for over three years. Then he started spamming my inbox with the Western Union Details.

  54. Hi, it's not just artist scams--I am a small publishing company and the order came in for books.

    Name:  David Parker, Philipines

Original email below that was forwarded to us from our distributor in Australia. I fell for the Western Union payment and have lost $564. . I finally got suspicious and notified the credit card company. The credit card used for the $1800 order was stolen and a hold was put on the card. At least that is one card they can't use any longer.
I googled David Parker, Philipines and half way down the page saw your website. Thank you for your efforts!  Victoria Lee

  55. David Parker still trying. He has emailed me that he wants to increase his order, which means he wants me to send more money for shipping (yes, I was dupped once! but not twice...) I called Visa and it was confirmed the credit card he used was stolen and a hold was put on the card and the card holder notified. He will receive no response for this new order. Wish there was some way to find and stop these guys.

By the way, Seahog Logistics Shipping just looks legitimate as a website. I'm pretty sure it is totally bogus as well.

    Thanks for having this website!

  56. I also received this email through our sales office but it just didn't seem right so I tried to send the email to the freight forwarding company (Lech Tech Logistics) and it bounced back to me. that's when I did some research on the internet and found this website. The email was exactly the same as the ones above but the guy (Richard Pavone) wanted us to ship water coolers into Japan. Any time anyone askes to cover the shipping charges because the company would prefer to deal with the 'store', it is not true. Freight forwarder will work with both parties and they will accept payment from the consignee.
Hope this helps anyone who is in the position to get scammed.

  61. Definitely a scam. And once you know this and get the credit card number, always report it. One time I got the number and pretended like it didn't clear when I hadn't even tried. The scammer gave me a completely different credit card number. I reported both to the credit card companies and at least put two numbers out of circulation. I know its a drop in the bucket and they have a ton of these stolen numbers which are not yet reported, but it made me feel better. And I'm sure the actual card holders appreciate it.

It smelled bad right from the get - we have the same last name which is what immediately raised my suspicions - I guess that turned out to be pure coincidence. In any case we do ship orders world wide, but always proceed cautiously and ask many 'filter' questions before even taking the order.

Thanks very much for putting up this site!

  68. What they are after is cash. They will eventually send you a fraudulent check or use a atolen credit card number to pay more than what is owed and have some convoluted story as to why you need to forward that extra money to their shipper, via Western Union. And that is the scam, because their money is all bad, there is no shipper and only the scammers are at the other end of Western Union picking up your good cash. they could care less about your items, they are after the cash.

Good to see you googled it before you lost any money.

How are you doing today? I just received confirmation from my secretary that the payment has been issued out and was mailed via UPS. It will be delivered to your address within two days from the receipt of this email. To my greatest surprise, my secretary included the courier fee with your payment, instead of the actual amount of the purchase! She made out the money order for $1,920. This was due to the accumulated unpaid transactions undertaken by my courier in the past few weeks and the courier guys said they can't come and pick the item up if I do not pay them including all outstanding debts. So once you have the payment, I want you to cash it and deduct the money for the purchase. The remaining funds should please be sent to my courier via Western union the same day you received the payment so my courier guys can make the trip over for the pickup at once. You will also have to deduct an additional $50 to offset the cost of your running around expenses. I am indeed sorry for any inconvenience I might have caused. Have a nice day ahead and hope to get a response from you asap. Cheers!
    David

    December 24, 2011
    I am very sorry for any delay that must have occurred during this transaction. Well, the payment will be delivered to you any moment from now via USPS (9405 5036 9930 0348 7412 44). Please once you receive payment, take it to your Bank and have it cashed. You will deduct the cost of the purchase from that and send the rest of the fund to my courier service guys once you have cashed the check, so that they can come over for the pickup later in the day as soon as they receive it through Western Union. Here is the information of the courier service guys to send the money to via Western Union;

    Name:
    William Kettler

    Address:
    432 W Main St, Belleville, Illinois 62221.

    I will need the following details of the transfer once you have sent fund;

    1. The MTCN number that is the 10 digits number on the Western Union receipt

    2. Sender's name and address used in sending the money

    3. Actual amount sent.

Please pay off the Western Union charges from the remaining fund after you must have deducted your money and the $50 that is to cover the cost of your running around. Kindly locate a Western Union store close to your address and have the remaining funds sent to the courier service guys so that they can make it up to your location at once. Have a nice day ahead. Cheers!

I Googled the address and it appears to be a state of Illinois driving department. I suggest that you Google Earth and street view the address to see what this person is using as a destination. Also Google anything that you are not sure of. I hope that I have helped.

  71. I'm sure you sharing the details will be of help to others. And the more we can educate people to Google search anything that doesn't feel right BEFORE losing any money, the harder the impact we will have on these scammers. So thanks for sharing all the details.

Funny how he switched names in the middle of the scam. And he was so accommodating with you subtracting out all your "expenses" - easy to do when all his money is fake and all your money is real.

Glad you did not fall for it.

is from a Tom Wood(tomgiftshop@gmail.com)using Seahog Logistics as his shipper and a third party shipping address, plus of course a customer ID as well. Not sure if either one are real or scam sites, but neither one has responded to my request for information on this Tom Wood. The email contact address does not match any from thier webpages.
In my case it was not hard for me to find out that this is most likely a scam. My husband just happens to work in the shipping business, he seen the red flags from the start.
My best advise! Delete these emails! If you wish to do sales over the net research all information given to you. When it comes to shipping you as the seller make the arrangements and the terms of payment. Alway make sure the money is in your hands before shipping anything anywhere and that you are insured for losses.

  75. Not just those sites. Scammers target any resource online where they can gather up email addresses and somewhat target the subject of their email, to look more legitimate (though many scammers skip the whole personalization thing in the first email until a potential victim replies and then they launch into a story).

Glad to see you didn't fall victim to it.

  77. The actual number matters little to the scammer - they their goal is to get you to forward the "shipping fee" (which will be paid by stolen credit card) to the "shipper" (who doesn't exist or if they do, they have no relationship with the scammer), so that your good money is sent back to the scammer via Western Union. And then it is untraceable. That's how it works.

  78. Well, David Parker is still at it! I got an email from him on 24/11/11 placing an order for about $2000 worth of goods. We got to the stage of order and I asked him for a credit card authority to be filled out with a copy of photo I'd and signature, then never heard from him..............until about 1 week ago. I should have realized when the same email came through.

However, I responded telling him we had his order ready. He provided a credit card number, which did not work, then another( which my bank said was not allowed overseas). He then sent a 3rd which worked

I was trying to find a contact number for Seahog Logistics, as I didn't want to give my address out via email ..........and I came across this site!!!!!

I am just about to all my bank and report the 3 credit cards that are obviously stolen!!

    Aaaggghhh!!

  79. It is really sad to me that they can so easily come up with 3 stolen credit card numbers - meaning they have a whole database full of them.

Yes, the best thing is to report the stolen credit numbers and at least get those three numbers out of circulation for the scammers.

I checked things out on-line first, but just miss the sights that would have kept me informed. Be careful about going to his websites too. 87. Dear Kathleen,
thank you for your art scam website. I found the perpetrator "mark peters" listed as another scammer. He/She recently contacted me to sell 56 fan veils, all shipped to the Philippines.

Thank you for having a site like this, it really helped me stay clear of a criminal!-Alanah

Same guy just wanted $750 in merch and would payment to ship it from Lintel Logistic
They wanted $750 to ship and were familar with the shipper.
Had ID and everything .Let him know he could buy the product online and ship it to himself, since he had the info and account.
Then he e-mail me back with all the locations I could go to Western Union and pay the shipper (Him). I e-mailed him back that he could buy the product from me but I was not going to be involved in the shipping. He has not contacted me back. I wish I had'nt spent 4 days trying to figure out if this was a scam or not. Thank you for this site. I feel bad being a small business, that I am never sure what I should trust or not.

  95. Just got a similar email as the first post, but from Mark Peters in the Philippines. "mark" made a huge error. He emailed a personal private email--one that is not listed anywhere for me for business contact. He asked for my website. How would he have found me unless he found my website? I sell online, and at local art fairs only. even my business cards have my business email on it. A phishing scam maybe from craigslist? does anyone else here respond to craigslist ads? maybe this is how this person is getting our info--just a thought.

ALSO--keep it mind that even though you are excited about landing a huge sale for your art, remember to check the facts in the email, and really read what the person has wrote. Do you think they got your email address from honest means? Most serious buyers will mention something specific they are interested in when contacting you--this person generalizes everything. Beware of generalizations, and people who are not specific!!

  97. I got the same thing from Mark Peters. He gave up when I requested the website for his company, which he said was Peters Enterprises. A short time on google got me here. What a loser.

If you are going to sell your products online, it is up to us to be educated on possible scams like this. You know your business the best, if we just pay attention and keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary and ask the right questions, we can protect ourselves.

  98. Got the same thing from Mark Peters ordering over $1,500 of history textbooks. Only instead of Seahog Logistics, he's using Lintel Logistics. lintellogistics@hotmail.com came up as a red flag. What company uses hotmail and has no website? Thanks so much for bringing attention to this.

  100. As of late December 2012/early January 2013 the scammer is still at it, except with the email addresses ausxxa@gmail.com or ausvva@gmail.com.

He claims to be Eric Anderson now, and now wants to use Anchor Star Ltd as the shipper, but the rest of the wording is the same. He has set his From address to be an email address at the domain name (ericanderson.com) that I own, so I'm getting his bounces and anyone who replies to the From address instead of the reply-to address. I have set up an auto-responder to alert anyone who replies to my email address about the potential scam.

Here's an example of what he's using when he decides what he wants to order from your store:

  101. This is how these assholes work - trust me these pieces of human trash (or maybe the same person) is trying this all the time.

He buys heaps of goods using either stolen or fake C/C's. Then you are hit with a sob story about someone dying etc

The piece of trash then wants a refund deposited into his bank account.

    TRASH!!

Whilst initially suss, I had however just posted a link to my redbubble store on my blog. I replied back asking what he was wanting to purchase and that I would direct him accordingly to which I got the rather blunt request of my website.

Still suspicious, I sent him th link to my redbubble store and told him shipping was available and payment thru checkout with Visa, Mastercard or paypal.

I have now had a reply back requesting manual credit card processing. Hello Scammer alert!

Our terms of payment, although we had an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) with BANK OF CHINA,but our management has rule it out of our payment method, because we encountered delay in our shipping services due to the bank-to-bank funds transfer that normally takes 3-5 days for funds to reflect in our account. So presently, we only welcome Western Union Money Transfer, because We are not set up to receive payment via credit card like stores,so you will be expected to send the shipping fees to our accountant through western union money transfer method. You would have to send us the amount quoted above,so that we can do the pick-up and settle the necessary tax and custom duties on this shipment, this price includes insurance and all their duties & taxes, then we will get back to you with the necessary details. We have greatly reduced the price of this shipment, because of our existing customer ID # IOPBYTRGET

  107. Definitely do not apologize for posting these long ones - posting exactly what scammers say is what helps our alerts show up in Google search results when others are wondering if their email is legitimate or not. I LIKE all the details - all out in public so the scammers can not hide.

Thanks so much for sharing. It will help others.

  108. We are a manufacturer in NSW Australia and received a similar email today. Although we replied saying their order was TOO SMALL and have asked them to place a much higher order (almost AU$10,000) Plus we have asked for a 50% deposit to be paid into our Western Union account to confirm the sincerity of their order and telling them 'this is how we do business with companies outside Australia.'

We also offered them FREE SHIPPING with their requested company!

All the above is fake, that's not how we do business, although it is how we deal with scammers. They are everywhere and every now and then, they need a taste of their own medicine!

To be a fly on the wall to see the faces on some of these scam artists when they get our polite emails in their email boxes!

    Hello,

My name is Tonia Smith ,This mail is to make inquiry on the below question. Do you accept credit card for payment (U.S.A Master and Visa card to be precise)regarding shipping, I already know of a freight forwarder that will pick my packages from your store after payment is confirmed and when goods are ready for shipment, as the private freight company shipping cost is cheaper than any other courier and they are so effective in shipping my goods to my store, their estimated time is 3-4 days.I have used there service in the past and it was splendid.

Kindly let me know your comments on these, so that i can email you with the items i am interested in purchasing from you.

    Tonia Smith
    (Owner)
Here is when it got very fishy for me:
Thanks for the total quote of my order. The total cost of my order is quite correct and okay by me and I'm ready to pay the bills . Also want you to help me Charge another $1550 to a shipping agent who is going to pick up my ordered items from you. The $1550 that will be sent to the shipping agent is for the shipping of my order plus other items i ordered from different countries which will be deduct from my credit card. Also, I'm compensating you with the sum of $250 for the transfer fee and for your efforts.

Please note that i should have given the shipping agency my credit card for him to deduct the shipping funds but he told me that he doesn't have the facilities to charge or debit credit card , so that's why i bring my vote of confidence in you and i don't want you to betray the vote of confidence i put in you, so i want you to transfer the funds to him after you have make the charges and the money charged from my credit card is in your account, then you can now make the transfer to the agent via western union.i will have love to do this my self but there no western union here around me,So the charges you'll make on my credit card will be:

    Order Fee ($4368)
Agent fee with shipping fare ($1550 )
Transfer Fee plus Your Compensation ($250)
    Total:($6168)

Note that my credit card will be charged for the amounts above . Please do get back to me if you are in the office right now so that i can forward my credit card details to you , then you can charge full amount and transfer the agent funds to him via western union.

    Warmest Regards
    Tonia Smith.

Why run only $1500 per day, why wire money to freight co? why no questions about my products, but demands to run credit card? so many red flags.

I ran $1500 initially. Have not run any more and now know it's a scam...ARGGG angry at myself. Who do I report this to? Is there any way they have 'hacked' into my accounts? I use SQUARE for credit card processing.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah, it will result in a chargeback. Report it to the credit card company so they know to take that number out of circulation. You can also report it to the IC3.gov site.

They have probably not hacked into your account. They use stolen credit card numbers not yet reported as such so they initially clear... but always result in a chargeback. The scammer is counting on you wiring the money to the fake shipper (which is just them at the other end) well before the chargeback as happened and they are long gone and so is your money.

But it sounds like you didn't wire any money and so really, you caught this as a scam in a nick of time. Good for you. Now just notify the credit card company and IC3.gov.

    JULY 1ST 2013
    BEWARE IS RIGHT!!!!!!!

  122. I just received this morning an email from Eric Anderson in the Philippines with the same exact content as others have received . Although I politely responded I was slightly suspicious so I googled the person and these comments and reports all came up . Obviously it is the same scam you all experienced . Last year , when I was dumber I fell for something similar and lost an expensive piece of jewelry that ended up in Moscow via a sleazy girl , ( the mail drop address ) , living in Missouri . I was able to trace the sleazy thief girl and the police talked to her. Nothing was done and I lost. Thanks for all these postings. It won't happen to me again.

  123. Just to add to the growing list, we got the same exact email from Eric Anderson. We got all of the way to the end; he sent us his credit card information. The big red flag was that he gave a Zip Code for Farmington, Missiouri. I checked the c.c. # on a verification website. Found it was a CITIBANK c.c. - called them and reported it - they said it belonged to a guy in Missouri and not by the name of Eric Andersen. Then I decided to google Eric Andersen and *BAMM*, here I am typing this report. I did report the scam to Western Union, my state Attorney General and my local police department.

  124. Yup, I just got one from Eric Anderson too. Didn't want to use Paypal and ship to a verified address but wanted to have Anchor Star Ltd. do the shipping. $1200 worth of merch. I started looking when the suggestion of his own shipper came up and found this. Good thing, sounded off from the start.

  125. We got the same email from "Eric Anderson", wanted a huge amount of books sent to him in the Phillipines. Finally I caught on after a couple of brief emails of him insisting I email his shipping company. We sent him an email saying we are all ready to ship his order and asking for $100 good faith down payment. LOL. He hasn't replied.

  129. Recieved the scam email. Why don't they bust this guy?
Cant they trace where he is recieving the money?

    ReplyDelete
  130. That is why they ask the money be wired via Western Union or MoneyGram. Once the scammer picks up the money, it is untraceable and they are gone.

  131. My small business also got the e-mail from Eric Anderson. It seemed funny that he would have me contact the shipping company to get a quote and I didn't think a legitimate company would have a yahoo email address. I couldn't find the shipping company online and replied to his e-mail that I couldn't find the company website and would he forward it to me. After 24 hours, I had no reply from him, although he had promptly replied when I told him we could ship to the Philippines. Upon investigating further, I found this site. Eric Anderson is now emailing from ausdda@gmail.com.

  132. Same experience with email from Eric Anderson - this time auszza@gmail.com As soon as I received his response I immediately recognized the Nigerian style of writing. I actually did find an Anchor Shipping -- in Pakistan. I was trying to figure out how they planned to pick up a package in Michigan. Thank you for your blog! I'm still not sure who the scam is on. We wouldn't ship anything without processing and having a charge accepted anyway. I'm guessing it's the credit card company that gets stuck. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Well, he/she apparently has become aware that we Google his alleged name, because the email he sent me included no name.
    Here's his email:
"Hello, I want to place an order in your store, I will like to know if you ship to Cyprus and accept credit card as a method of payment. I will await your prompt response as soon as you receive this mail. I will be very glad if you treat this email with good concern. Best Regards"

What's interesting is that all my goods are sold via Amazon and other such companies. I can't see what he expects from me.

  137. Hi Kathleen,

    I just found your blog

We got sucked into a transaction with these people – and actually sent them some money. It’s a long stupid story and I didn’t do enough research before moving forward.

Is there any way at all for anybody to track these people down? We just got another request from the exact same email address that they used last year. If they’ve been using it this long wouldn’t there be a way to track it down? There must be national/government experts who try to find these people. We don’t expect to get our money back but it would be nice to be a part of catching them.

Thanks, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

    J.

  138. J,

It sucks when someone actually loses money to these scammers, it just breaks my heart. Sorry this happened to you.

You've had actual cash loss, so be sure and report it to ic3.gov. But you are right, it's almost impossible to expect to get your money back. Yes, they use the same email addresses for long periods of time (really, until the email service shuts them down and then they just open new ones) - they know how to do this so they can not be traced and they use services where this kind of disposable account use can be perpetrated. They operate out of foreign countries and steal the bandwidth of others. There really is a formula.

And why it works so well is that they target a sweet spot where the authorities so not think the loss is high enough to pursue and yet they can still make millions by doing a volume business. Average loss ranges from $1000 to $6000, which to an artist is a LOT of money, on top of just making the victim feel shame and guilt for falling for the scam.

I wish we could more. I believe this blog and corresponding facebook page is helping many avoid becoming victims - as we all report our scam email names and email addresses - even if the change, potential victims do often google the names and we want them to show up here so they know it is a scam and do not send any money.

Report your loss to ic3.gov and let's keep sharing this stuff to warn others!

  139. A friend who runs a non-profit just received the email below. Luckily, she felt like something was wrong so she asked me about it. I was able to find your web site and forward the link to her. Your site saved her from losing dollars that were meant to raise funds for a good cause.

  140. I just got the Eric Anderson mail a few days ago. He wanted 100 berry bowls and asked that I use the AnchorStar LTD shipping to ship to Singapore. The body of the mail message was exactly the same as what others have reported. I don't have that kind of stock on hand, so before moving forward with this, I decided to google AnchorStar to see if it really existed or not. I then saw the links to scams with Eric Anderson and AnchorStar.

Thanks everyone for posting this information!

  143. Hello Kathleen,

  144. HI Kathleen,

Thank you so much for posting that blog about Art Scammers, I’ve recently been sent emails from a Leo Wood, asking if he can send me a large check worth 10x the amount of the piece he asked to buy so that I could “relay” money to a shipper of his. I believed it for a while until I read you posting and he pretty much fit every single red flag you mentioned.
    Anyway, his email is:  leowood777@gmail.com

Here is the email that sealed the deal that he is definitely a scammer!-

    "Good Morning,

I'm so glad to be having your piece of art work,i have received your details and its my pleasure to have it purchased. However i will like to bring to your attention a little concern, which i guess we can handle with much understanding and trust from you. I will not be able to make payment from our family joint account in order not to leave any clue to my wife for the surprise. Due to that effect i have made a contact to a client of mine who is owing me an outstanding debt that amount to a considerable sum to issue out a check to you for the payment of the beautiful painting. The payment shall include the shipping agent's fees who's taking my belongings from my old home in Florida,i guess i must have noted that in one of my message to you.Once you have the check cashed at your bank, you will help me relay the balance to the shipping agent, which details will be provided,i believe i can entrust you with this little task. Once this has been done the shipping
line will schedule a perfect timing with you for the pickup of the painting, they will be left with the responsibility of the safety of the painting. They will have to pack it in a way not to damage it while transporting to our new home. I'm entrusting you with these as i will like us to have more business in the future.please i will appreciate if you get back to me asap to know if i can entrust you with this transaction, as the payment will be sent out immediately I read back from you,Thank you foryour understanding."

Basically he wants to send me a check for $500 (my painting only costs $45) so that I can "relay" money to his shipper? It's confusing and he has yet to give me a straight answer. Total scammer.

Thanks again for helping me uncover this scammer, its really a shame people would prey on artists like this :(

Anyway I hope this info helps!

    ~Maggie

  145. Received one from Eric. I thought it was fishy from the begining seeing as he had the same name (american) as one of my friends. Then when asked he said he found me on google. I may show up on google but if thats how he got my email then he already has my pricing. To any artist that does not already know, if you have someone contact you with a suspicious email regarding your shop saying something along these lines: "My name is Eric Anderson,I want to place an order in your store,I will like to know if you ship to Singapore. Do you have credit card facility?Get back to me with your website.I will await your prompt response.
    Best Regards,
Eric Anderson" BEWARE!!! Google their emails please. I would hate for any one of you to fall for it.

  146. I received an email today that at first I was excited but by then end of the day I thought it sounded fishy. I went back to re-read the email and it had disappeared from my inbox. I had already forwarded it though so I still had a copy .
The email sounds very similar to the one your describing except now he wants to send someone to pick it up in person to ship it to him instead of me shipping it directly. In addition to little things being off. The english / grammar is off. And it seems they didn't even read my email or look at my site to answer his questions.
I am glad I found this site.
The email address in question is ericderek56@yahoo
