This scam email doesn't have a fake person's name but a fake store name. All the rest of it is the typical stuff we see in these scam emails.

We just want you to know to go to Google and find out who this scammer is. Here is a correspondence of this guy and see how he approaches ordinary people. He is looking for some opportunity to rip people off.

Never responded to Terry as found this website, but did respond to Lawrence and never heard back from him again likely because I told him that we require 100% of money upfront.

Keep in mind, folks, that all these e-mails are written by somebody without good English. Sometimes it's subtle, like using a comma instead of a period. Whoever wrote this line: "Kindly let me know your comments on these" is not an English speaker. Or "I have used their services in
ReplyDeletethe past and it was splendid." That's just not a common English phrase, nor is it in correct English. It is a common Nigerian phrase, though. If the sender's name was Nigerian, it would actually be less suspicious.
Another good clue is the name of the company. "Lawrence and Group Supplies" sounds a bit odd, don't you think? Or John Dan - who is named John Dan around here? I used to get spams from somebody named Kimberly Tuton.
So don't pay attention to the company name, or the name of the sender. What these guys do is compose an e-mail in English, then share it on their spam forums. Then they just change out the name of the company and the sender.

Watch out for these guys. It looks like their English is getting better, but always check into it. I noticed that scammers never ask directly about your product. They never call your product by name, and rarely specify your business name. Make sure they're specific!
Thanks for sharing your experiences, but you'll notice from the comments shared above that in some versions of this particular "template" of a scam, they do mention product by name and are specific. In other versions, the scammers are general at first and then get specific with those people who reply.

Here is another one! This was received earlier this week, and they do respond and engage in the "roleplay"!! They even checked our website and identified specific products. A lot of effort for the scammers, without any return!

Ok - it gets better (from my previous post earlier today)!! I managed to take it to the next stage to see how it works. They are obviously hoping that the supplier (us) will make a payment in advance, for the shipping to the (phantom) customer. Apologies if this note is obvious to most, but there will still be some who might get pulled into this one, so best to state the obvious.

Also interesting to note, no account details for the shipper! (they need to iron out some creases in this scam!):

ReplyDeleteI had an order placed by the Awad Miller fellow, and actually ran a card of over $5k for an order I was about to start production on.
I felt a little wary the whole time, but the card went through so I was about to start production.
I felt strange that the name on the card was different than the person e-mailing me, but I have had issuer cards in the past that have been different than the person I am dealing with so it was not just that, but just everything together...the strange english, the weird shipper, the urgency in tone for getting the goods.
I just refunded the purchase to whoevers card was actually charged and hope it does not come back to bite me.

Yes, scammers frequently use credit cards numbers that are stolen but not yet reported so they often clear. We've seen when they do not, the scammer will offer another number until it does clear. But all these stolen cards not yet reported always end up in a chargeback once the theft is realized.
ReplyDeleteReport any of these cards to the credit card institution and take them out of circulation because the scammer will continue to use it until they can't.

Here's another one regarding FRANK ENSTA trying to place an order with my company.
ReplyDeleteEverything matched right down to the name and address. However, the credit card company denied the charge. Thank goodness, saving me a chargeback of $6092.70.
I originally directed him to my website to place the order, but he didn't feel comfortable using his card online.
Then I suggested he fax over a copy of the card front, and back, as well as his ID, and a bill. He said he didn't have the software for that.
Then I ran the card, and it was denied.
Last, I told him to wire the funds ...still waiting on a response back.
**This is so ridiculous, as if busy hard-working people have time for such foolishness!

Yes, this is pretty much how this scam operates. Pretend to buy a large order, pretend to have a store in some weird foreign locale, pretend to have a shipping company that for whatever pretend reason, needs YOU to *wire* the shipping fees to them, thus securing the scam because the scammer's money will be counterfeit or if a credit card, the card number will be stolen and result in a chargeback.

We are interested in reporting James Strong as we have been hit with 900.00 in "freight charges that we wired". He did give us another (3) credit card that we processed but feel that it is stolen, and he now wants to increase his order with much more freight costs. We are not going to complete the order but want to report it to someone. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteYes! Go to ic3.gov and report the case. I doubt your money is recoverable, but that division there tracks trends and looks for gangs to shut down. So it is good to report it. Also, report to your local police and get a police report filed, just for the paperwork.

I got the exact email as above - Shop Rite Central in New Zealand - no name on the order but same exact verbage - BUT these guys are getting sneakier - the freight company guy they used is actually the NAME of a freight guy I have done business with.... and the details were all lining up to scam me. Luckily I found this!! Major clues - huge order, bogus freight companies, same verbage, grammar errors, no name.

"Nick" just tried to purchase 12 Scent Vent's from my company. He set up shipping through a fictitious company SeaLink Express Cargo. When I told him we did not ship our product until we received payment in full he produced a MasterCard number and all the necessary info. The only thing is it had a North Carolina address on it, seemed more than a little strange for a company located in Australia so I called MasterCard direct. Gave them the information he provided and while the card didn't belong to a Nick Anderson the address and all other information he had was correct. The bank put a block on the card but it appears these individuals now have working credit cards they are attempting to use.
Amazing...still going. I received this on 4/4/2014 and was just about to respond. Thought, "maybe I should check their website and see what they do." Thank you for the help netizens!

I've also received a number of emails from this Grey Woods account. We communicated for several weeks before we realized that something was fishy with the names, addresses and businesses used.
ReplyDeleteWe even went so far as to email the delivery service, which is also not a real company.
I received this email after we wrote saying we thought it was strange that the delivery company itself does not accept credit.
Earlier i mentioned your cooperation with them, as I will be handling all payment starting from my order, their shipping fee,and any incured wire fee. I could pay them directly , but they do not have the facility/material to debit a credit card. Lead way have delivered to us over the years without delay and damages, so their services is what we recognize. As soon as the products leave your store , they are in full responsibility.
Get back to me with an update quote/cost of whole payment so i can proceed to making arrangements for payment. Also what kind of credit card do you work with ?
